Top 10 Restaurants in the Bay Area with Gluten-free Options
- True Food Kitchen caters to all who have food allergies and food restrictions, and they have a good variety of savory dishes that is rounded for everyone. They have a chain of restaurants throughout the U.S. and it’s always one of my go-to options when dining out (or IN via their online ordering system!)
- Kitava Kitchen is focused solely on customers who are gluten-free with options that are paleo-friendly too. Their Cuban Bowl and General Tso’s Chicken are 2 of my favorite meals, and they’re packed with flavor. They have 2 locations – one in the Mission District of San Francisco and a new space in Jack London Square of Oakland.
- Mariposa Baking Co. is where I go when I need to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings or need something quick and on the go for lunch. They have an assortment of both sweet and savory options, and some of my favorites here are their cinnamon rolls, sandwiches, cakes and cheesecake. They’re main location is in Oakland, but they also sell in San Francisco.
- Misfits Bakehouse specializes in homemade breads and pastries that cater to the gluten-free, paleo and keto crowds. I’ve yet to try this bakery myself, but have heard great things from friends. I’m determined to check them out this holiday. They’re located in Palo Alto and San Carlos, and their baked goods look amazing!
- Sweetgreen has multiple locations around the U.S., but the closest one to us is in Berkeley. We love their food, because they specialize in seasonal organic fruits and vegetables, serving salad and warm bowls. They have gluten-free, paleo, dairy free, and vegan options, and everything is always fresh.
- Mixt is another really good seasonal salad, plates and warm bowl restaurant with multiple locations around the Bay Area. Their salads are huge and far from boring. I love the variety on their menu and they cater to meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans.
- Dimond Slice located in the Dimond District of Oakland, serves a gluten free option, which I actually enjoy. Their crust is rice flour based, and they only have 1 vegetarian flavor of the day, and you can find the set menu on their website. I’m not a fan of vegetarian pizza, but this one is SUPER flavor-packed and so good.
- Zachary’s Chicago Pizza We love their GF pizza options and their crust is also rice flour based. This one’s my go-to for pizza and they have multiple locations in the East Bay.
- Aburaya is a Japanese restaurant known for their GF fried chicken. It’s hard to find good fried chicken, let alone GF fried chicken! So this is our go-to place when I’m craving some comfort food. We order the fried chicken, rice and salad combo plate.
- Nido’s Backyard is a really cool, hip, outdoor space in the outskirts of Oakland’s Jack London Square. The fusion Mexican food is so good and it’s kid-friendly with lots of room for kids to run around. We love coming here for brunch and their menu has a fair amount of GF options. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area!
